What they don't tell you about Tahklahk lake.....

You're driving along the scenic highway enjoying the beautiful sunny day, passing through the little towns of Mossyrock and Randle. You then drive along the National Forest road that leads to 8 miles of potholed gravel where your car and yourselves get covered in dust. Finally you reach your campground and are excited to get started! You open the door and then...
WHAM!
It happens!
You're greeted by swarms (and I'm not kidding!) yes, swarms of blood thirsty evil vampire mosquitoes!
You run to get your bug spray and spray yourself and your husband down, only to realize that they had already succeeded in attacking your fresh skin over a dozen times. You have tons of little itchy red bumps all over your arms!
BUT they don't stop there.
These little pesky intruders are here to stay. Right next to you. Until they find a spot that didn't get sprayed enough. Then they attack and gorge on your blood.
Yes, we were warned last minute to bring bug spray because there were mosquitoes, but no one warns you of the vicious blood sucking beasts that hover around you all day!
You litterally are swatting them away from your face. They don't care if you have bug spray on. They will still land on you just to see if they can stand the repellent. They don't give up!

Put the mosquitoes aside, the campground is nice from 5:30pm on. :) We actually really enjoyed ourselves despite the blood suckers and here are some photos of our trip.

Campsite 13

Checking out the site

It's a pretty decent size too

We had to remove our picnic table that had sunken into the ground a good 6 inches

Yes, and what is camping without snow!

Setting up our new tent from REI!

Camp is getting started!

Our very best friend for the next 3 days!
(all together, we spent a good $35 on bug spray and other bug repellent)

On the lava rock flow right next to the lake

Mt. Adams from Tahklahk lake's day use area. Unfortunately, this is the only spot where you can really see the mountain.

Only a fraction of the bugs we killed

If you don't mind mosquitoes in your face at all times and no running water or showers, this place is great! We really enjoyed ourselves here. :) The no running water or showers was not a big deal and we bought two 7 gallon water containers, so we were good to go. You also want to bring a boat or flotation device of some sort to make your time worth it. There is really nothing to do at the campground other than fish in the lake and take the 2 mile hike around the lake.
We went into Trout Lake and had milkshakes one day. An excuse to flee our constant assassins. They are known for having good huckleberry milkshakes, so we had to try them out! We went to Mossyrock a few times and on Friday went swimming at the park there and had a blast!

So that's the latest here. Now we're preparing to leave this Thursday early in the morning to fly to CA to house search, so we won't be back until Monday.
Lots to do when the time is just flying by!

Our first camping trip definitely was a great and memorable time!
