Before you get halfway through this post and are still wondering when is it going to end, I'm just going to warn you that it's a big one. I took the majority of our 680 something photos on this day, but not to worry! I carefully selected the highlights and there aren't even a 6th of the total pictures taken here. :)

So, lets begin. The first trip on the list: Gimmelwald. 

We left our apartment early morning Friday and arrived at Lauterbrunnen around 11am. Lauterbrunnen valley is a main hub to getting either to the mountians, Gimmelwald, Murren, or the Schilthorn. Since Friday was supposed to be warm and clear, we decided to take the train up to Jungfraujoch.

 The train to Jungfraujoch takes an estimated two hours with one transfer. The views were absolutely stunning. The following pictures are taken from the train.

What you see here is Jungfraujoch in the distance. 

We transfered at Kleine Scheidegg station which was seated at the base of the Bernese Alps. The people who live and work here get the best views of the Eiger, Jungfrau, and the Mönch.

We were greeted by this massive beast with the traditional barrel under his neck. The owner was parading him around and if you wanted to take your picture with the dog, were charged a hefty fee!

The official trian to take you to the Top of Europe! The train actually passes through part of the Eiger and for those of you who've seen Nordwand (The North Face) movie, you'd be as excited as we were as the train stops at lookouts that were seen in the movie.

Finally after traveling the last leg of the train ride in darkness, we reached the top and stood on the terrace of the train station at a total of 11,782 feet. The Jungfraujoch lookout is saddled between the Mönch and Jungfrau mountains. 

The Aletsch Glacier

This is the largest glacier in the Alps extending a length of 14 miles and covering 46 square miles! It is estimated to be at least 1km thick!

 It was so beautiful that no captions are really needed. The pictures speak for themselves.

There was an awesome zip line that you could take onto the Aletsch Glacier, but it was too expensive for us. So we just enjoyed watching the guy pretty much throw people off!

Inside under the station, there were tons of cheesy displays, but one was pretty cool and that was the ice cave. :)

Everything was ice. The floor, the walls, the ceiling.

On the other side of the station, you could walk out onto another lookout point with a Swiss flag. It was amazing, but very dangerous as the wind almost blew you off your feet. If you weren't holding on, it was very possible that you'd fly right off the side of the mountain like many people's hats and gloves did. 

Heading back. Since we had to transfer at the Kleine Scheidegg station anyways, we stopped for a cup of coffee and wandered around for a bit.

Taking the train back to the Lauterbrunnen Valley

The lines that you see reaching to the top of the cliff are the lines of our cable car taking us to Gimmelwald! It was a little scary at first!

Can't beat the views or the price! 28 francs per bed a night!

Of course as soon as we got settled we took a walk through Gimmelwald, which isn't very big at all. 

These people live in the most beautiful place on earth.
