Brought together by a Fountain.

You're tired so you sit down. Slowly relaxing those sore muscles. There is a gentle breeze with hints of warmth to it playing with your loose hair. The sound of the nearby fountain takes you back to some distant memory of hiking to a waterfall. The sound of the droplets hitting the water, although loud, send you to a place of reflection. The sun is still trying to decide it he is brave enough to come out from hiding behind the skirts of the thin clouds. He peeks out and then runs away.

Your eyes return to the landscape. People are milling around. Mainly the older crowd is out enjoying the cool of the morning and the quiet before the school kids are released for lunch. There is contentment on their faces as they go about their day. Some are sitting by you enjoying the sound of the fountain.

Looking around, you realize how different everyone is. There is you, quietly observing everyone else and definitely by far the youngest. A mom and her small boy enjoying a snack while resting his little weary feet from shopping with mom. A city tour of older folks all happily chatting and "ooo-ing" and "aw-ing" with their friends. The older gentleman to your left has his eyes closed trying to relax, but is also a prepared man. There is an umbrella firmly clasped between his hands. Then to your right is the typical actions of people in this technological world today. A middle aged woman immersed in her phone and earbuds in her ears. She's completely unaware of everything around her. Your eyes meet briefly as you scan the crowd and you sense a sadness in her.

The roar of the fountain blocks out most of the busy sounds around you, allowing you to get lost in your thoughts. How calm. How peaceful. If only this feeling could last forever.

So many different people all gathered here. All in different walks of life and yet here we are enjoying a friendly community brought together by this little fountain.
