Our final day of driving was the highlight of our trip. We were headed to Berchtesgaden where Hitler's Eagle's Nest is! To be sure it was by far the most impressive sight of our journey. Well, besides the mountains that accompanied us the whole way. :)

The following are more pictures of the beautiful countryside along our drive.

 We saw tons of cool castles up in the hills that we wish we had time to see.

Before you get to Kehlsteinhaus (The Eagle's Nest) you have to park in a huge parking lot and take one of the designated special buses to the top. There were tons of people there, but everything was orderly and timely and we only waited 20 minutes before our bus came. The bus then takes you up a very narrow windy road that literally hugs the mountainside! I had a hard time looking down as the drop off was quite steep! The buses then take you to the bottom of the cliff that Kehlsteinhaus sits on and here you walk down a long tunnel dug into the heart of the mountain to get to the gold plated elevator that takes you up 124 meters.

It's really hard to see from this terrible picture (pictures were not allowed, but I was sneaky and snapped this one) but at the end of the tunnel, you enter into a dome shaped room in which you wait to enter the gold plated elevator. I do have to say, it's a mighty impressive entrance!

There were paragliders flying right over us. 

 After we enjoyed a light lunch and a beer at the restaurant, we headed home. Updates to come and a post of some pictures of München!
